ABOUT US
Experience
not the extraordinary,
but an “alternative everyday”.
STORY 01
Tradition, Reimagined Quietly
Machiyado Ichiryu began a new chapter on November 2, 2024, following a year-long renovation of Ryokan Seiryu, a historic inn with over 50 years of expertise in Hida beef. Reborn under a new name, the spirit of the original inn remains—refined, restrained, and deeply rooted in place.
STORY 02
Hida Takayama
— A Town Connecting Eras
Hida Takayama is a place where tradition and nature exist side by side.
Once known primarily within Japan, the town has gradually drawn the attention of travelers from Europe and the Americas who seek authenticity over spectacle.
Its streets, where history and culture continue to live, are lined with small sake bars and cafés—unassuming, yet quietly memorable.

STORY 03
An Alternative Everyday
– A way of living found within daily life
Hida Takayama is a town where history, nature, and daily life exist in quiet harmony.
Once known mainly within Japan, it has gradually drawn the attention of travelers from Europe and the Americas who seek places with depth rather than spectacle.
The clear waters of the Miyagawa River flow gently through town, koi swimming beneath its surface. Morning markets open with fresh local produce, days pass among old merchant houses and small boutiques, and at night the streets grow still, as if paused in time. This is not a scene created for visitors—it is daily life, lived carefully and continuously.
To us, this is “Alternative Everyday.”

STORY 04
The Philosophy
of Machiyado Ichiryu
What we value is not something overtly extraordinary, but an alternative everyday—a form of daily life gently touched by something special.
Situated within the town, Machiyado Ichiryu offers a space defined by refinement rather than excess, evoking a quiet sense of nostalgia that feels both familiar and enduring.

STORY 05
The Luxury of
Staying as If You Live Here
Blending naturally into the atmosphere of Takayama, Machiyado Ichiryu embraces the understated luxury of staying as if you live here—supported by a deep sense of comfort and ease.
Time is respected, and guests are free to move at their own pace. This is a stay for adults who prefer to grow with a place, rather than rush through it.
We hope your time here becomes a gentle chapter of your journey, lingering quietly in memory.

Thoughtful Hospitality,
by Design
As a small inn, we are able to offer attentive yet unhurried hospitality. Each stay is carefully composed—from the moment of arrival to the time of departure—allowing the quiet charm of Hida Takayama to reveal itself naturally throughout your journey.
Rather than overwhelming our guests with excess, we focus on subtle consideration, refined pacing, and a sense of ease that feels effortless, yet intentional.
Eleven Private Sanctuaries
The inn features just 11 guest rooms, all over 40㎡ in size. Six are suites, and every room includes a private semi-open-air bath.
Warm furnishings, generous space, and a quiet atmosphere create a sense of retreat—an intimate setting that feels less like a hotel and more like a private residence within the town.
Cuisine Rooted in Expertise
As a long-established specialist in Hida beef, Ichiryu serves only carefully selected cuts chosen by experienced craftsmen.
Whether enjoyed as sukiyaki, shabu-shabu, or steak, each preparation highlights the balance of marbling and lean meat. Our Kaiseki courses express the essence of Hida beef through seasonal composition and restraint—offering flavor without excess.
Lounges for Unhurried Evenings
After dinner, guests are invited to relax in our two private lounges.
Complimentary local sake from Hida Takayama, along with a selection of beverages and light accompaniments, is served in a refined setting. It is a place to unwind quietly, extending the evening at your own rhythm.
Private Onsen, Without Interruption
Instead of a large communal bath, Machiyado Ichiryu offers three private onsen baths.
This allows guests to enjoy the hot springs of Takayama in complete privacy, without concern for time or surroundings. A calm, personal onsen experience—designed simply so you can relax fully.
Private Dining at 168-tei
Dinner is served at Annex Dining 168-tei, located directly across from the inn.
All meals are enjoyed in private rooms, allowing guests to savor each course in a quiet, uninterrupted setting. Carefully prepared Kaiseki cuisine is paired with seasonal local sake or wine, creating an evening defined by focus and ease.
At the Heart of Historic Takayama
Located in the center of town, Machiyado Ichiryu offers effortless access to Takayama’s main sights.
Even after check-out, we are happy to store your car, allowing you to explore the Old Town, Takayama Jinya, and the Miyagawa Morning Market on foot. With major attractions just minutes away, the town itself becomes an extension of your stay.
