🍁Autumn Stroll Recommendation: Visit Hie Shrine 🍁
Hello, this is Kyo, service staff at Machi-yado Ichiryu.
Autumn has quietly arrived in the town of Takayama, painting the streets with warm seasonal colors.
This time, I’d like to introduce one of our recommended autumn walking courses — a visit to the historic Hie Shrine (Hie Jinja).
Hie Shrine has long been cherished by the locals and affectionately known as Sannō-sama.
It is also famous as the venue for the Takayama Spring Festival (Sannō Festival), where magnificent festival floats parade through the city.
Surrounded by lush nature, the shrine offers a peaceful and spiritual atmosphere that can be enjoyed throughout the year.
From our inn, it takes about 20 minutes on foot to reach the shrine.
You can enjoy a leisurely walk through Takayama’s traditional streets along the way.
For those who prefer a quicker trip, a LUUP electric bike station is located right at our entrance.
Using LUUP, you can reach the shrine in about 10 minutes—perfect for a refreshing mini ride while feeling the autumn breeze.
Inside the shrine grounds, the leaves have just begun to turn red and yellow, creating a beautiful scene.
The autumn foliage is expected to reach its peak around mid-November.

Walking along the path surrounded by colorful trees, you can truly feel your heart calm and clear.
Visitors can also enjoy browsing through various charms, omikuji (fortune slips), and goshuin (shrine stamps).
On this visit, I purchased my very first goshuincho (stamp book).
The one from Hie Shrine features a beautiful design with illustrations of festival floats and the shrine’s name— I fell in love with it at first sight ✨
The goshuin itself is handwritten, with graceful and expressive calligraphy.

I’m excited to continue collecting goshuin as a way to record my future travel memories.
Autumn in Takayama is a perfect harmony of nature, history, and color.
A walk to Hie Shrine is ideal for a quiet morning stroll or a relaxing break between sightseeing.
When you stay at Machi-yado Ichiryu, be sure to take a gentle walk to Hie Shrine and feel the spirit of Takayama’s autumn.
It will surely become a memorable part of your journey.
